One Warm Coat

**As a reminder, during the month of December I am highlighting a different charity every day here on the blog. Click on the label "charities" on the right side of the screen to see a list of the previously highlighted charities. Have a favorite charity you would like highlighted? Drop me a note! Thanks for reading, and feel free to share!**

One Warm Coat

In my ongoing effort to post ways we can support charities with items instead of (or in addition to) cash, today I am highlighting One Warm Coat.

From their website:

One Warm Coat is a national non-profit organization that assists in the donation of coats. One Warm Coat helps individuals, groups, companies and organizations across the country collect coats and deliver them to local agencies that distribute them free, to people in need.

The organization’s goal is to ensure that anyone who needs a coat has one. Providing this simple yet vital need helps people live productive lives year round.

Close to 3 million coats have been collected and distributed through One Warm Coat activities since 1992.

Health experts report that even a 2-degree drop in body temperature results in reduced heart rate, loss of coordination, and confusion. Adults cannot work effectively and children find it difficult to learn. For most, a warm coat solves the problem. But, for the now nearly 15% of Americans living in poverty, a warm winter coat is a budget “extra.”

Visit the website to find a donation location near you. Of course, you can donate funds, or hold your own coat drive, too.

Being cold is one of my least favorite things. I have heard being cold, and unable to get warm, as dehumanizing. I would agree. Look through your closet and see if you have a gently used, One Warm Coat that could be donated. All sizes and types are needed.
