Procrastination & Lunch

Today's post brought to you by procrastination at (school)work, the leading supplier of blog posts, facebook posts, twitter updates and other random useless time wasters in the world. (<--think PBS lead in and it's funny.)

Okay, so, as I posted on Facebook (haha...SEE..Time waster!) I have quite a bit of homework that I am SUPPOSED to be doing today. But, I'm struggling. I *did* work on it, but I got distracted (again). Also, I got a slight reprieve because one of my instructors realized that we haven't covered the amount of material that we really should have covered in order to take the quiz and write the paper, so she pushed the due dates out. Coolio (<--not the singer).

My other homework, while still important, is less critical, so while I have worked on it, I am still (obviously) procrastinating. I think I am wishing secretly that my classes were a bit more.... engaging? I don't know if that is the right word. I keep really hoping for some meaningful, interesting, higher education type *learning*, and mostly I feel like I've been listening to a lot of theoretical lecturing. And, while I am not perfect, or the best, or anything like that, I feel like I am a pretty good speaker, conflict manager, and I try not to be close minded in my thinking about others, already. I guess I really want to get into the meat of things, and I feel like we are still on the fluff.

"Where's the BEEF?" (<--do you remember those commercials? Funny! I don't care for the new ones though. Dumb. They need the old ladies in there somewhere, or some old lady [Betty White!])

Anyway, I will probably get to regret my procrastination, and I am hoping that the *learning* feeling I am looking for is right around the corner.

Now, onto more interesting topics, like LUNCH!

I threw a "bunch o stuff" in a bowl and heated it up.

There is a veggie burger crumbled up, some quinoa, a few cherry tomatoes, some edemame, a little green pepper sauce and a tiny sprinkle of romano cheese. It's pretty darn good. And I was able to use up some leftover stuff.

I think dinner tonight is Rib Eye steaks, potatoes and ? Salad maybe.

I am going to roast a chicken this weekend with potatoes, carrots, fennel, onion, and rosemary. YUM!

I am also, if I can find ground lamb, going to make a stuffed pepper recipe I found that looks DELISH. We got a decent harvest of colored bell peppers this year, so I want to stuff 'em and eat 'em!

One last thing before I go. It's important. I hope everyone will watch this video, share it, and maybe watch this episode of Sesame Street with your kids on Saturday at 9pm on your local PBS station. There is a Spanish version being played, I think on Sunday.

No one in America (or anywhere) should be hungry. There is more than enough food to go around. Please consider, especially as we head into colder weather, and food heavy holidays, donating time, money or food to your local food pantry or shelter. This is a cause near and dear to my heart.

Thank you!!

Now, back to your regularly scheduled programming!

So I'm driving around town, Alejandro say's how do you know where to go. I say I've lived here for 19 years. The boys ask why I said my parents got divorced and Grandma needed to be close to her family and find a job. Tomasi ask's did you struggle. I said yes sometimes we didn't eat. He was shocked and said that's why you get so mad if we waste our food and I said yes Tomasi I hope you never know how that feels.
He say's is that why we always donate food, clothes, and help families at school and I said exactly.
I am recording this for them to watch. Thanks for posting it.

I'm sorry you had to experience that as a child, Marcela. You are doing such a great job teaching your boys. They are going to grow up to be good, strong men who support their community. We can't ask more than that! Thank you for all you are doing to raise them well.
